Amy Rumsey Bio
My name is Amy Rumsey and I am a 3D Design teacher at Leigh High School. I started my teaching career in 2006 and came to Leigh in 2012. I am also the Advisor for the Environmental Club and can be found in room 5.
I attended Michigan State University as an undergrad before transferring to Western Michigan University where I graduated with a B.A. in Art Education. I moved West starting my career in a high school in NV and then returned home to complete my Masters in Education from Western Michigan University. I then packed my bags a second time moving back to the Tahoe area where I lived until taking the position at LHS. This is my 12th year at Leigh and I love it!
Outside of school I love hiking, gardening, drinking coffee, mountain biking, going to concerts, going to the beach and spending time with my friends and family. I have 6 1/2 year old twins, Isla and Riley. My husband is my best friend and I couldn't ask for a more supportive and loving partner to enjoy life with.
The aspect of my job that I enjoy the most is to witness the growth of my students throughout the year. I enjoy the exciting and productive vibe of the art room where they are able to build their skills through hands on project based learning. I love to challenge my students creativity and to encourage them to think outside the box. Sometimes the box flops and that's ok!
I became an Art Teacher because I was able to combine my own interests of Art and my love for working with students. I take the time to build a relationship with each student and really get to know them on an artistic level but I also like to know who they are as a person.
