About Mrs. Johnston
Hey there! My name is Jazelle Johnston -- while I typically teach ENG 4 and ELD Enrichment, I am also called in as the wild card for 7th period (the class changes as our population does). I joined the Leigh English department back in 2023 after completing my student teaching in East San Jose. I am originally from Sacramento, California, but my education took me all the way up to CSU Chico for my Bachelor's in English Education (with a linguistic/multicultural literature focus) and a random road trip brought me down for my teaching credential from San Jose State.
As an instructor, I pride myself on making a classroom that is safe and a place of community for all involved (we spend nine months in there after all), but also somewhere that encourages learning in a variety of ways. From making podcasts and board games as unit finals to life-sized character posters, there's a lot to experience as far as language arts goes--my goal is to provide students the opportunity to experience "classic" texts alongside the modern entities they inspired, to see how literature shapes the world all around us, to decide what their interpretation of the text looks like.
When I'm not teaching, I'm planning road trips with my wife, playing some of the latest video games, watching anime, reading a book with my third cup of coffee, or figuring out what I'm going to study next!
