About Ms. Rumsey

My name is Amy Rumsey and I am a 3D Design teacher at Leigh High School. I started my teaching career in 2006 and came to Leigh in 2012.

I attended Michigan State University as an undergrad before transferring to Western Michigan University where I graduated with a B.A. in Art Education. I moved West starting my career in a high school in NV and then returned home to complete my Masters in Education from Western Michigan University. I then packed my bags a second time moving back to the Tahoe area where I lived until taking the position at LHS. I have loved working here since day one!

Outside of school I love hiking, gardening, drinking coffee, mountain biking, going to concerts, going to the beach and spending time with my friends and family. I have fraternal twins, Isla and Riley. My husband is my best friend and I couldn't ask for a more supportive and loving partner to enjoy life with.

The aspect of my job that I enjoy the most is to witness the growth of my students throughout the year. I enjoy the exciting and productive vibe of the art room where they are able to build their skills through hands-on project based learning. I love to challenge my students' creativity and to encourage them to think outside the box. Sometimes the box flops and that's ok!

I became an Art Teacher because I was able to combine my own interests of Art and my love for working with students. I take the time to build a relationship with each student and really get to know them on an artistic level but I also like to know who they are as a person. I feel grateful to say that I love my job.
