Five student-athletes from Leigh High School inaugurated the next stage of their academic and athletic careers during an afternoon ceremony on April 26.
Seated at a long table in the main quad, the students fielded questions from Athletic Director Michael Scialabba in a mock press conference.
On hand for the festivities were Leigh High Principal Pamela Hoult, the families and friends of the honorees, and Campbell Union High School District's Interim Superintendent Tanya Krause.
“We’re extremely proud of our student-athletes,” said Krause. “Their success highlights the positive benefits that students receive from athletic participation as well as the range of opportunities our students have for success both inside and outside the classroom.”
Senior Kyle Isaacson won an athletic scholarship to Oregon State University, where he will compete in men’s Division I rowing, while classmate Ben Vanderluit will attend Concordia University to play men's volleyball.
Vanderluit had a cumulative grade point of average of 3.8, and Isaacson had volunteered more than 700 hours at the Los Gatos Rowing Club.
Meanwhile, teammates Alexis Lindsey, Teresa Danenberg, and Taylor Klauser, will go on to play softball at the University of South Carolina, Sonoma State University, and the Colorado School of Mines respectively.
Danenberg has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years and also occupies first chair for clarinet on Leigh's symphonic band while maintaining a 3.7 GPA.
Both Klauser and Lindsey both have a 3.5 GPA and played three years on the varsity softball team.
