Community College, Trades, and Military Fair: Monday night's Trade School, Community College, and Military Service Fair was a big success! More than 250 people attended and talked to representatives about the many options open to students after Graduation. If you attended but did not fill out the exit survey, please do so now at this link: https://goo.gl/forms/ AK6FKoWDdyV3kHMp2 We look forward to this becoming a yearly event at Leigh. A huge thank you to all of our schools and vendors who attended and to our College and Career Center parents who spent hours chasing down representatives, marketing the event, and organizing the space.
Upcoming College Fair: Please save the date for our upcoming College Fair on April 26th, 6:00-8:00pm, in the Gym. Come visit with reps from UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, San Jose State, Humboldt State, Santa Clara University, University of Massachusetts, University of Florida, University of Montana, Oregon State, Boise State, California College of the Arts, Academy of Art University, Harvard, Smith, Washington University, Gonzaga, Concordia University, Mills College, FIDM, and many more...
Thank You HSC Parent Education: Last night Dr. Shapiro spoke to a PAC full of parents about surviving the Junior and Senior years as they relate to college planning and transition. He was humorous and informative, the perfect combination in a speaker. A big thank you to our HSC Parent Education volunteers who have done an amazing job of bringing some wonderful speakers to Leigh.
WASC Feedback: Hopefully you got the emails regarding our amazing WASC visit and the wonderful feedback we received. We will now hear about the official status mid-May instead of mid-July. Please let your student(s) know that I sent them a similar message about the feedback through Loopmail.
Course Requests Mailed: Course requests for the 2017-18 school year have been mailed and should be reaching homes this week. Any changes to the requests are due by May 1st.
Make-A-Wish Rally: Today Leigh came together to grant wishes for our students. They wished for things like prom tickets for a friend, a scooter for a nephew, a family trip for a father, and son and daughter and lastly, the wish to provide our teacher Miguel Castillo with funds to furnish the home he is re-building after he lost everything in a fire. The rally went off without a hitch despite the wind and the Leadership students did a great job.
LHS Cheer: Congratulations to the Leigh Varsity Competition Cheer team for placing 2nd place out of 18 teams at this year's Nationals competition in Anaheim this past weekend. Leigh Cheer returned to competition in 2014 and placed 3rd at Nationals in the 2015-2016 season and improved to take 2nd this season.
For all interested in trying out for the 2017-2018 season, application packets are available in the main office at Leigh High School. Go Longhorns!
What Are Leigh Students Up To?
This year we had three art works selected as Downtown Door Winners out of 180 submissions. This is such awesome news as it is not easy to have one selected, let alone three. Please join me in congratulating Elle Gallmann, Faith Trout, and repeat winner Heather Ho! These works will be printed 8ft X 12ft and placed around Downtown San Jose for two years. So very proud of these students!
