A private college and/or university is privately owned, typically not operated by the government, and funded primarily through tuition, foundation monies and endowments established by the institution. Private colleges and universities accept financial aid and have some oversight and regulation by the government, however, their accountability is different than that of public colleges and universities.
 
In order to apply to these schools, students would need to create an account with
the Common Application website or via the Coalition website. Some colleges offer full tuition scholarships. More information here
