About Ms. Moseley

I grew up in an Air Force family, living in six different states before graduating from high school in northern Virginia. I attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music (voice emphasis). I received my teaching credential from San Jose State University. Since joining the Leigh staff in 2002, I've taught seven courses: English 1, English 2, AP English Language and Composition, French 1, French 2, Drama, and AVID. I currently teach English 1 and AP Lang.

I coached the Leigh Mock Trial team from 2002 to 2018. I coordinated Leigh's accreditation process known as WASC for the 2008, 2011, 2016, 2017, and 2020 visits, and I continue to serve as a WASC visiting committee member annually. In 2009, I was selected as CUHSD's Teacher of the Year. To see my classroom wish list, please click here.

I believe that students should be given multiple opportunities to demonstrate their mastery of new learning. Because of this, my students are often able or required to submit more than one draft of writing assignments until they've shown proficiency in the target skill(s). I use a mastery-based grading system that better helps students to achieve mastery than the traditional 100-point system.

Professional Interests:
  • Standards-based teaching and assessment, grading for equity

Outside of work I enjoy being active outdoors, doing things like walking, cycling, camping, and exploring 4x4 backroads of the West. I served as a National Park ranger for two summers in Chaco Culture National Historical Park in northwest New Mexico. I also enjoy hanging out with my dogs, watching movies, riding my Peloton bike, and reading.

Fun facts about me:
  • I've lived in eight different states
  • I LOVE dogs - I started fostering dogs in 2013 and became a "foster fail" in July 2019 when I adopted one of my fosters!
  • I went to high school in Virginia
  • I have a "French family" who saved my grandpa in World War II and who I still keep in touch with
