AI Camp Scholarships

Would you be interested to learn about AI? If so, AI Camp (www.ai-camp.org) would like to offer 10 scholarships to interested students at Leigh High School to learn about AI.

A bit more about AI Camp:

  1. AI Camp was founded by Stanford Ph.Ds, and our instructors are from Stanford and Carnegie Mellon University. Our mission is to bring AI education to all middle and high schools across the nation.
  2. Our AI curriculum is specially crafted for middle and high school students. In just one year, we have taught more than 2,000 students for this introductory class.
  3. Learning AI can spark students' interest in learning about math, coding, critical thinking, and science. AI is the biggest technology tidal wave in our student's lifetime.

"AI Camp (www.ai-camp.org) is offering 10 scholarships for their Introduction to AI lecture series. This lecture series is the same that offered at Stanford University this summer and will introduce AI and careers in tech to you. No coding experience is needed. The opportunity is first-come, first serve. You can register it here: www.ai-camp.org/free-lesson. AI Camp is founded by Stanford Ph.Ds and advised by a Stanford Professor and CTOs in Silicon Valley. UC Fall Virtual Opportunities

UC Berkeley - Beginning in October, Cal Performances will feature a variety of new full-length videos and events available for streaming. Main stage performances have been commissioned (and often produced) directly by Cal Performances, and will feature recitalists, chamber ensembles, theater companies, and jazz artists who have recorded the same programs they had planned to present on our Berkeley stages this fall. Main Stage videos will be accompanied by free “Beyond the Stage” artist talks; interviews; lectures; Q&A sessions with artists, Cal Performances staff, and UC Berkeley faculty; and more! Plus, special premiere-evening “watch parties” will allow you to enjoy the company of other performing arts lovers from the safety of your own home. Throughout the fall season, Cal Performances at Home will feature performances from New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia, Spain and Germany; filmed in venues including Merkin Concert Hall, the Curtis Institute of Music, the historic Louis Armstrong House in Queens, and the Bowery Ballroom in New York.

UC Davis - Through the Global Learning Hub, each and every UC Davis student can find global learning opportunities available on campus, in the region, and across all seven continents. The hub’s network of local and global academic, experiential, and leadership programs helps develop capacity for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students to engage with global issues and make a difference in the world as the next generation of global problem solvers. This fall, the hub is providing virtual opportunities for global engagement, including internships, research, and volunteer opportunities. Students can participate in programs like the Smithsonian Digital VolunteersAmnesty Decoders, or the United Nations Volunteers. More programs and options are available through this innovative center.

UC Irvine Lucid is a new online journal for first-gen students to share their experiences and explore their identities. Its writers are all first-generation UCI undergraduates, most of whom have never been published before – many don’t even want to write for a living. What they have are powerful stories and a drive to tell them to the world.  In a medical anthropology essay, “My Mother’s Migraines”, senior Mariel Calva describes her mother’s silent battle and how she eases her suffering while lacking healthcare. But the essay is only a small part of a larger feature: an interview with Calva, in which she reveals the sense of empowerment she developed during the writing process. Woven throughout the journal and featured prominently on the cover is sophomore Mayra Sierra’s artwork.

UCLA - In this current climate, students as well as faculty and staff are feeling tremendous stress which may contribute to a variety of mental and physical health problems. Mindful awareness has been shown to lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, increase attention, help with anxiety and depression, and foster general well-being. The Mindful Awareness Research Center offers a range of free virtual programming and services including a series of professionally recorded Guided Meditations, a Weekly Podcast, and virtual drop-in meditation sessions. A variety of topics are covered in each component. Examples include working with grief and loss, cultivating compassion, opening to change, working with difficult emotions, breathing meditations, and body scan meditations. Get the mindfulness app to practice anywhere!

UC Merced The Center for Career & Professional Advancement empowers students and alumni to reach their full potential by offering services in career development, experiential education, employment and graduate school. This fall the center will offer virtual career advising and workshops, virtual career fairs, and online career assessments among other programs and services all posted to an online career events calendar. Every Thursday a Career Appy Hour will feature different employers and graduate schools. Cisco, Northrop Grumman, the U.S. State Department, and Vanguard are a few of the opportunities just in the first half of September! There are also workshops and events for pre-health and pre-medical field interests, leadership panels, graduate school preparation, resume and cover letter workshops, and an engineering conference.

UC Riverside - Staying physically fit and active is important even in a virtual world.  The Recreation Center provides a series of workouts on YouTube to help students (and anyone) stay healthy and safe. They also provide free yoga workouts, guided meditations, cooking videos, martial arts instruction videos, and even apps for hiking, running, and CrossFit. The rec center staff can help students customize aquatic workouts, links to outdoor excursions, and blogilates for home workouts. Also available are guided meditations and a Calm app to enhance sleep and reduce stress.

UC San Diego - The Triton Career Center offers more than meeting employers, attending virtual college fairs, and getting help with career skills. While the Career Center does offer a full range of virtual services, they have a virtual series called the Triton Career Boost. Each week students can learn more about different careers and hear from alumni who are working in different industries. From exploring engineering to pre-health and pre-medical fields, the Triton Career Boost provides opportunities for students to create a virtual career roadmap, explore core career competencies, learn about career options for majors, attend virtual career conferences, network with alumni and employers, and develop a compelling professional online presence.

UC Santa Barbara - The Multicultural Center facilitates the retention and recruitment of students of color and to combat institutional racism and ethnocentrism. In addition to continuing to provide a safe space for students of color, international students, and gay, lesbian, and bisexual students, the MCC serves as a bridge to the entire campus community. To that end, the MCC offers a broad spectrum of events including lectures, panel discussions, films and videos, musical, dance, and dramatic performances, and poetry readings, which are all open to the general public. This fall these events have moved to a virtual format, allowing students the opportunity for continued engagement. The fall calendar features film screenings, panel discussions on prominent issues, a conscious conversation series, and performances. Upcoming topics include the presidential election, Black political identity, and Filippino voices organizing for freedom and democracy.

UC Santa Cruz - Part of the mission of UCSC to its students is to foster connection and engagement in the virtual world. The campus offers a full range of exhibits, lectures and presentations, training, and concerts and performances for the community. Award-winning author Margaret Atwood is the guest speaker for the next free installment of The Deep Read series, which offers in-depth conversations with readings and analysis with prominent authors. Conversations on the evolving health crisis, Lab chats with scientists in different disciplines, exploring the natural world in a week of themed programming, and finding opportunities to connect to the global community are evidence of the dynamic virtual community serving students. The Events calendar provides a one-stop hub for information, registration, and access to past events.
